ALL THE GOOD BOOKS COME OUT TOGETHER

Okay, so maybe they don't

I know I'm never good at reviewing books, and I won't do a very good job. However, despite all the "fun" things happening in life (cross country, subject tests, HIGH SCHOOL) I kind of have been procrastinating a lot by reading. Which I guess I can technically get away with but reading's never assigned anymore so I guess not.

Anyway, a bunch of really good stuff came upon me recently.

Of which I had to stop everything else and read, which I did, which I won't review because I suck at it, but will give ratings. Here they are...

Stand-Off, by Andrew Smith

PictureThe back cover drawing always looks better in this series, but eh.
I just read this today, and by "today" I mean I read the 400 or so pages of pure goodness in all of today. Four-point-nine-bar out of five stars (does that actually make sense as a number??) because of the cute comics' reappearances, all the rugby stuff, Andrew Smith's crude, immature and horny (yes, I mean horny) humor, and also the sole existence of Nico Constantino ("you ate shit over there, bro"). I can't give it a five though because who gives books a full rating (‽‽‽) and also Ryan Dean is supposed to be a little shit in the beginning but who can stand that? Only Sam.

I Crawl Through It, by A. S. King

Picture
Another guilty one day read, I have to admit. This was Saturday and Stand Off was Sunday aka today. Oh god, A. S. King. How can you keep on writing such beautiful stories? And one each year??? If I gave this book a rating a measurement instead of a rating then it would be one nanometer away from being amazing and one hundred percent. This is the first time it wasn't just one protagonist and I was okay with that and everything was so amazing and this is a really bad sentence but I don't care. I loved the characters so much. SO MUCH. The girl who needs to dissect frogs, the boy with his invisible helicopter, the girl who tells lies, the girl who swallowed herself, even the dangerous bush man. I want one of his letters. Soo gooooooood...

Okay, so you're probably thinking I give out way too generous reviews and ratings. Let me tell you I have been waiting to read both of these books for over a year and they happened to come to me on the same day. Thank you, library.

By the way, here are some other books I've read this month, or somewhere around then. It's in reverse chronological order.

All the Bright Places- It was good. Okay, I cried. But we're not going to talk about that. Read sometime around 10/14?
P. S. I Still Love You- Holy crap Laura Jean get a life!! I'm happy for her but seriously that girl is so irritating sometimes in how dependent she can seem. Or just sheltered, really. Also will mention I want a Peter in my life. (Read in the beginning of October?)
Thousand Pieces of You- I think this was one of the first books to get me out of this reading slump I was in... I liked it a lot. There was this concept of alternate dimensions, which is always a plus in my life. Oh, and fate and true love and stuff, which is eh. The only thing that was kind of upsetting was that it's a planned trilogy, or at least a series. I so wanted it to be a stand alone, though. Finished around late September?
The Perfectionists-  I have not read the review by Caramel on this, but I did see it so I tried to read it. I had to drop it. I'm sorry, but every girl had a pretty good life but as soon as something happened, their lives went askew. Makes sense in the part of guilt, not knowing the true murderer, and stuff like that but WHY DID ALL OF THEM ALMOST IMMEDIATELY FIND SOME NEW LOVE INTEREST AND ALL THIS "OH NO I CAN'T LET MY BOYFRIEND KNOW" OR "OH GOD SOME CREEPY TEACHER DUDE YOU CAN TELL IS THE MURDERER FROM THE START OR IS HE I DIDN'T FINISH THE BOOK". I tried. I couldn't. Stopped mid-September.
If there's more, I forgot. But it's been a pretty good month or so of reading.

Until next time- which will probably be when I'm procrastinating.

HEY ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE... NEVER

I suppose I should be honest with you-- book reviews were never really my thing. I always feel like people would look at them and say "too criticizing" or "WAY TOO MUCH FANGIRLING" or "this girl doesn't get it at all". Not to mention the fact that some book reviews I just can't read because it just happens to be way too long and thought out while to me the book was just. . . meh.
So to make up for my absence I shall review the books I've been reading.
In three sentences or less.
OH YEAH I'M ALSO NOT REALLY PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT I'M WRITING HERE SO MAYBE SPOILERS?
ALSO I USE PROFANITY AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO DO SO. YEAH LITTLE KIDS, YOU'D BETTER RUN.

AUDIOBOOKS (great for when you want to sew something without feeling like you're wasting your time failing)--

THE HEIR, by Kiera Cass
Better than expected by this one ranting review, prominent trope of "girl is bitch at first but starts to get better". Felt less awful about the whole Selection thing getting continued and am glad I do not have to listen to America whine. Also laughing at Maxon being like a lost dog all the time with his wife and also that one time he was sobbing into Aspen's chest.

WE ARE ALL MADE OF MOLECULES, by Susin Nielsen (I'm sorry but I have never met a "susin" in my life okay I'm done)
That girl got what she deserved. . . honestly was not even a memorable book I barely recall the stuff that happened. Liked the different references to theories and such. Continued to add to the conjecture that most boys named Jared turn out to be white trash.

BOOKS THAT WERE NOT AUDIO BOOKS SO BASICALLY NORMAL BOOKS
(in no order whatsoever I'm just looking at the ones on my bed)

BIRDWING, by Rafe Martin
Glad to read some fairytale variation after all of that dystopian rage that has finally blown over (we're into the modern day contemporary love stories now though. . . sigh). Kind of nice but unrealistic how everything just happened to tie up in the end, although it's what you would expect from an adaption from a fairy tale where they live happily ever after. Moral of the story is never give up and also get hella swol.

ROOMS, by Lauren Oliver
Lauren Oliver yet again pulls off that "NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS" sort of dealy-deal. Love the writing style and different perspectives. As always all her characters are messed up and their lives are shit.

BETTER THAN YESTERDAY, by Robyn Schneider
It's her first book for a reason. Laughed at all the white kids trying hard and getting amazed at precalc and 4.0's.

ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL, by Jesse Andrews
Another first book. Disappointed and not understanding why so many people want to read it. This kid needs to get them gains and get a life cuz the one he has reminds me of some bland goopy shit I don't want to touch.

WE SHOULD HANG OUT SOMETIME, by Josh Sundquist
I really loved the layout of this book, with the investigations. Will do the same if I end up with no relationship by the time I'm 25. The moral of the story was not really hinted at and the sudden realization was sudden to me too.

HOLD ME CLOSER, by David Levithan
Ah, Tiny Cooper's absolutely fabulous musical- I don't remember much of Will Grayson, Will Grayson besides the general plot and the whole song thing with Jane that made me so angry but overall was a pretty pleasant and fast read. Also-- Janey in the original, but Djane in the revised script aka this book. I almost died.

OTHER THINGS BESIDES NORMAL BOOKS AND AUDIOBOOKS THAT I HAVE READ

THIS ONE SEWING PATTERN I TOOK FROM MAH GRAMMAH'S SEWING ROOM, by Newlook
I read the instructions and traced the patterns and I made a dress. Pretty good read, if I do say so myself. Things came together in the end.

THAT'S EVERYTHING I REMEMBER READING IN THE PAST FEW WHATEVERS SO YEAH. ALSO I FINALLY UPDATED SO HURRAH.
