Hey, guys! I'm back! Ok so this is a review on the book Prodigy by Marie Lu. It's the sequel to Legend, and the second book in the trilogy. So in this book Day, a thought-to-be-dead criminal, and June, the Republic's most wanted traitor, are both on the run, and they turn towards the Patriots for help. Ok, so if you have already read this book, please, read on. If you have not read it yet... QUICK, SHIELD YOUR EYES!!!
- So for Legend, I mentioned how I liked the different fonts for the two different perspectives, but for this book I read it online and the font and color was the same throughout the whole story. So I'm not sure if Marie Lu chose to make this book in different fonts and colors too. But I'm hoping she did, because for me it seems to make the book more unique.
- Okay, so at the beginning of the book, I thought that it was hilarious when Day pretended to be drunk and June pretended to be his escort. Not only was it hilarious, but I also thought that it was kinda romantic, not the candle-lit dinner kind of romantic, but the flirty romantic. And it certainly made me scream, "SHIP! SHIP!". I was kind of confused throughout the book about June and Day's relationship. I mean are they together? Or are they not together, but have strong feeling for each other? Or is it complicated? Either way, they're still a ship in my book.
- So when June and Day had to use the bathroom at the same time I was like, "Okayyyyy, this is kind of awkward..." but then they started to make out and it was just like, "Aaaghhhh the feels are attacking me! Can't Breath!". Then Day said that he loved June and it was like, "SHIP! SHIP! SHIP!". But June wasn't sure if she loved Day or not, and I can understand that, I mean everything happened so fast, of course she'll be confused. Plus this way, it kept things interesting.
- So when Day got his knee replaced with a mechanical knee did anyone else think of Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles? No? Just me? Oh well. And Day was so chill with the fact that he got a mechanical knee. He was just like, "Oh cool!". I mean I can kind of get it, because he no longer had to deal with the pain, but if it were me, I would probable stare at my leg in disbelief for a few years.
- Remember how in my review for Legend I mentioned how I thought that Tess had a crush on Day? Well, can I just say I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! Tess seems like a really nice person, it's too bad, if June wasn't involved I might have had shipped her with Day. But I ship June and Day too badly. When Tess tried to kiss Day I was like, "Honey, BACK OFF!". And then later when Tess asked him if he would rather save her or June, and he would save her because June wouldn't need saving. That was pretty harsh. But it's true, June wouldn't need saving, she could take care of herself. But as for Tess... I think that she would need Day to save her. And at the end, when she refused to go with Day into the tunnels I was kind of glad, because if she wasn't there then she wouldn't be able to mess up the relationship between Day and June. But I was also hoping that she would go with them, because I knew that if she didn't she'd be in trouble and when she isn't messing up my ship, she's actually pretty sweet so I was like, "Please, just get into the stupid hole."
- Before I knew much about Anden, the Elector, I had a feeling that he would be a good guy. And he turned out to be just that. I thought that he was really nice and charming. I was really worried that June would start to fall for him because of my June and Day ship. And I was worried that Day would get extremely jealous, which he kind of did. I was really hoping that Day wouldn't be one of those jealous types, that he'd be one of those people who knew that the other person loved them enough to not fall in love with someone else, but I can't say I blame him because June never told him that she loved him.
- When Day and June got into that huge fight in the tunnels I was like, "Gahh nooo! My ship! Please stop!! *sobs*" And I was scared that they would both be too stubborn headed to apologize so they would end up hating each other. Thank the gods that didn't happen. At least now I know that the ship is able to forgive each other.
- When I realized that Metias was in love with Thomas I took the longest gasp, "Gaaaaaassssssssssssspppppppppp" Metias was gay?!?! What?!?!?! I always imagined him as a ladies man. Man, I need to work on my imagination.
- I was not ready for Kaede's death. I had a feeling that she would die, so I kept mentally preparing myself, but when it finally happened, I was not prepared. Kaede seemed so cool and strong and independent! If I didn't have a thing against swearing I would call her a bad***. And she died after she did that rocking awesome job of flying the plane, and she seemed so invincible at the time. *cries*
- I don't even want to think about the fact that Day is dying, because that just kills me. He can't be dying! He can't die! He's too young, too awesome, to die! WHYYYYYYYY. And then when he told June that their relationship wouldn't work out, I was like, "NOOOOOOOO MYYYY SHIPPPPPPPPPPP!!! WHYYYYYYYY! *uncontrollable sobbing*" The next book better fix this!
Overall, I thought that it was a pretty good book. I didn't think that it was as good as Legend though. But there was still definitely plenty of suspense and action. And I would think that there was more romance in this book then the first one. I would probably give this 4.2 stars out of 5, because I did feel like some parts felt kind of slow and sluggish, and I didn't enjoy the plot as much as I enjoyed the first one. But it was still a good book. I can't wait to read the next book, Champion, which is also the last book in the trilogy. So keep an eye out for that review :)
